Axion quality problem and nonminimal gravitational coupling in the Palatini formulation

In axion models, the global U(1) Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry is explicitly broken by nonperturbative effects of gravity, such as axionic wormholes. The gravitational violation PQ due to wormholes large enough invalidate mechanism, which entitled quality problem. Recently, a novel solution this problem was suggested, where nonminimal coupling field gravity $\ensuremath{\xi}$ introduced suppress wormhole contribution. work, we revisit in different but equally valid formulation namely Palatini formulation, Ricci scalar solely determined connection. We first find taking full dynamical radial mode well axial mode, then show that still resolved with $\ensuremath{\xi}$. requested lower bound turns out be slightly higher than metric formulation.
